Ironic Tragedy
Here's a bit of irony for you, I want you to think of the most tragicly ironic thing that has ever happened to you and see if it compares to this. Let me explain...
Last year the only thing I did besides childcare, was handyman stuff. I put up drywall, I taped and floated, I sanded, I textured, I painted, I helped put in carpet padding and carpet, I did alot of painting. So what could be more ironic than losing all that work (approximately 4 months).
See, I was in houston for like a week visitng my sister before she went to the P.I. and over the weekend I came back in order to help fundraise. I spent friday with Jer ballooning. Jer and Mila live in San Antonio and come back to Houston in order to fundraise on friday-sunday. During those nights they sleep in their old house in Houston, but Sunday Night thru Friday they don't see the Houston House. So it was that we came to the Houston house on friday at like 2 in the morning having not been there since sunday morning the week before. As we approach the door we see water on the ground outside...."that's weird" I think. The door opens and there is water on the floor..."uh oh" I think "someone must have left the faucet on for a few days". I continue to think this until I see a piece of drywall from the ceiling laying on the floor and water leaking through the roof. The damage continues upstairs. The carpet in a few upstairs rooms are soaked to the bone and the ceiling there has fallen as well. It turns out the hot water heater in the attic had broken and had leaked water for 4 days. The next day emergency crews came and tore out the baseboard in 2 rooms, the ceiling in 3 rooms, the sheetrock walls in 2 rooms, the carpet in 3 rooms. All of these things I had spent 4 months fixing up. Painting rooms, texturing, painting baseboard, putting in carpet, even putting in ceiling sheetrock.
So in summary, with one tiny act of god, 4 months of my life was wasted. Well not wasted, I learned alot, but all that I produced in that time sure was wasted.
Anyhow, boring read I know, but it means alot to me. Just thot I'd mention it.
